Miami (June 20, 2018) – The Fall Term 2017 Miami-Dade County Grand Jury has released a report today, Wednesday, June 20, 2018, entitled “Amendment 4: Vote “Yes” for a Safer and Fairer Florida”. It has now been publicly released.
The Miami-Dade County Grand Jury expressed its strong support for the passage of Constitutional Amendment 4 which is intended to automatically restore the right to vote to felons who complete all the terms of their sentences. The only exceptions would be convicted murderers and convicted felony sex offenders. Constitutional Amendment 4 is on the November 6, 2018 ballot and will require the consent of 60% of the voters to be included in Florida’s Constitution.
Among the many positive community benefits of the restoration of voting rights outlined by the Grand Jury are the measurable decreases in criminal recidivism and the resulting decreased costs of incarceration levied upon the taxpayers of Florida.
State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle will be available to discuss the Grand Jury’s report. Please telephone 305-547-0535 to schedule an interview time.
