With the completion of the final interviews on Friday of witnesses regarding the Martin Luther King Day incident which led to the initial charging of Mark Bartlett with Carrying a Concealed Firearm, State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle announces that additional criminal charges have been filed. Utilizing the Hate Crimes Enhancement created by the Florida Legislature to provide stiffer penalties for a conviction when an offense was motivated by prejudice, Mark Bartlett now faces the following charges:
3 Counts – Aggravated Assault with Prejudice – (Enhanced to a 2nd Degree Felony)
1 Count – Improper Exhibition of a Firearm – (Enhanced to a 3rd Degree Felony)
1 Count – Carrying a Concealed Firearm – (3rd Degree Felony) State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle will be available this afternoon to add some additional comments to this information.
