Miami, Fla (December 1, 2020) – State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle and our entire SAO team recognize December 1st as World AIDS Day. World AIDS Day was first recognized in 1988 and is dedicated to spreading awareness of the AIDS epidemic and grieving those who have died from the condition.

Even as research advancements and treatment improvements thrive, AIDS, unfortunately, continues to claim nearly 2 million lives annually, of which nearly 250,000 are adolescents. According to HIV.gov, an estimated 40 million people worldwide have died of AIDS since 1981, and an estimated 37 million live with HIV.
