Miami, Fla. (December2 , 2020) – State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle and our entire SAO team recognize December 2nd as National Special Education Day.

On this day in history, December 2, 1972, the nation’s first federal special education act, the “Individuals with Disabilities Education Act” (IDEA), was signed into law.

IDEA effectively made available a free appropriate public education to eligible children with disabilities throughout the nation and ensured special education and related services to those children. This significant day honors the progress made in affording individuals with special abilities the same opportunities as those without special needs.

To learn more about IDEA, visit https://sites.ed.gov/idea/.
